Hey this is Hewy Woodman from the No Sleep in Helena Blog and Facebook page and here is you Helena Minute. 

Last week Helena residents John Madderra and his son Casey, were invited to meet the governor last week for a ceremony proclaiming April as " Adrenal Insufficiency Awareness Month".  Chief Mike Bartlett and Chief Jason Baker from Rocky Ridge Fire Dept (who helped me get a statewide EMS protocol in place which allows paramedics to administer life saving medication to adrenal insufficient patients.

Helena Middle School Ladies Softball team are now the Area Champs Way to Go.
They beat Riverchase this morning 5-1 and beat Chelsea 9-1 for the championship!

Not to be out done, the boys High School team also captured their Area Championship

Last Week Helena Hosted the Alabama State Pokemon Championship. Over 100 players gathers to compete in the card game. I heard that one parent’s child had earned $20,000 in scholarship money from playing theses card games. 

Kirsen Gardner. 1st. Shot Put & Discus.
Kourtney Moore. 2nd. Triple Jump.
Cade Pugh. 2nd. 100M Dash.
Claire Vaughn. 3rd. 800M Run.
Curtis Woods. 3rd place. High Jump.

Girl 4x800 team come in 3rd place

Helena Winterguard got 1st place at competition in Spring Hill

HHS Outdoor Track and Field Team finished their first meet of the season Saturday in Cullman with 13 metals and 9 school records. As well as a trophy the Boys Team won for 3rd place overall

The Alabama State Pokemon Championship is being held at Helena Middle School on April 9th-10th and the money raised will benefit   the HMS PTO. If you're not quite Championship ready, or you just want to learn, Card Addicts is hosting a Pokemon Huskies Spirit Night, open to ALL Helena students, on March 22nd for play, learn, and trade. Card Addicts will donate a percentage from Pokemon sales from Huskies Spirit Night to HMS!

Helena was ranked the 2nd  "Hardest Working" city in Alabama. The title was calculated using the local unemployment rank, average hours worked and the education of residents. The full rankeding was/;
1. Chelsea
2. Helena
3. Alabaster
4. Calera
5. Pike Road

Helena’s Two by Two Rescue was awarded PGA Tour Charity of the year. 
Picked throughout all of USA and Canada

A big Way to Go to Helena High School Baseball player Brooks Freeman 
who signed with Huntingdon College last week.

In the recent Scholar Bowl Tournament, Helena High’s team came in 3rd place,
 and Helena Middle 7th grade came in 2nd 
in Shelby County. The 8th grade Scholars' Bowl came in 3rd and 6th grade 
Emily Moore received the highest score on her 
Scholars Bowl Team at the county competition
The Ranch House in Helena on Hwy 52 is planning on opening this month 
and they are looking to hire servers, cooks and 
steam table attendants. Call 841-7799
Congrats to Helena wrestlers at the AWO-AAU championship Will Miller 
won first place in his weight and Michael Moran 
placed 3rd place 
And finally Congrats to Brayden King who won the intermediate school 
geography bee. Way to Go!
